WIT January 2025 Newsletter
Welcome to our first newsletter of 2025! The beginning of the year always feels like a good time to reset and look ahead. We’re excited to see what we do with all of you over the next 12 months, and we hope you are, too.
A Recap of Our Last Meetup:
We already had our first meetup in January. Joy Apple gave us a great presentation called Using Technology to Lessen “Rushing Woman Syndrome”. We loved seeing ways to use the tools that we already have access to and probably didn’t even know were there. If you haven’t had a chance to see it, you can find it on our YouTube channel: https://bit.ly/datawit-youtube-jan-2025. Thanks again to Joy for presenting!
What’s coming up?
Join us on February 11 at 12:00 PM EST for our next Women in Technology session, “Unlocking Smarter Document Processing with AI Tools.” Led by Andrea Rosales, this session will explore the challenges in document processing and fraud detection. Discover real-world use cases and see how Microsoft Document Intelligence and Azure OpenAI can transform critical business processes—making them smarter, faster, and more secure. Vision 2025: Achieving Balance and Purpose in Your Life and Career
Each year, I take time to set meaningful goals—both professionally and personally. Unlike resolutions, which often lack structure and fade away, goals provide a clear target and a plan to achieve them. They serve as a guide, guiding my efforts and helping me stay focused throughout the year.
I believe the key to goal setting is maintaining a balance between career growth, personal well-being, and life goals. As a woman in tech, I juggle multiple responsibilities—family, career, volunteer work, and more. At the end of each year, I take time to reflect and ask myself:
How will my personal achievements enhance my professional journey—and vice versa?
As part of this process, I evaluate ten life domains I learned from a book: spiritual, parental, intellectual, social, emotional, vocational, physical, avocational, marital (I’m not married; I can focus on the other categories), and financial. I focused heavily on my career goals in previous years, but I’ve since learned that my career doesn’t have to be the center of everything. This year, I’ve completely shifted my focus toward achieving a more balanced life. I’ll still be working on career goals but without an overwhelming emphasis on them.
Goals for 2025
Here’s a brief insight into a few of my 2025 goals and how they benefit me professionally, even though they aren’t directly related to my career:
- Follow a balanced meal plan (Jan 1 – Mar 31, 2025). Improved health boosts energy, enhances focus, and reduces stress—leading to greater productivity and career growth.
- Declutter and organize my home (by the end of Q1). An organized home fosters a more structured mindset, improves focus, and strengthens project management abilities—valuable traits in the workplace.
- Learn Python for home automation (July 1 – Sept 30). Learning Python will enhance my problem-solving skills, improve logical thinking, and may open unexpected opportunities where Python knowledge could be beneficial in future roles or projects.
Why Balance Matters
Personal and professional goals are deeply interconnected. A well-rounded life improves focus, resilience, and productivity. For instance:
- A healthier lifestyle leads to better energy and decision-making at work.
- Pursuing creative hobbies enhances problem-solving abilities.
- Stronger relationships provide emotional support, empowering you to take career risks with confidence.
Closing Thoughts
Success isn’t just about climbing the career ladder—it’s about leading a meaningful and joyful life.
What are your goals for 2025? How will they contribute to your personal and professional growth? Take a moment to reflect and start designing your future with balance and purpose.
